Tax Exemptions ...

Partial exemptions to the Village property tax are available to certain senior citizens and veterans upon application. Application must be made at the Village Hall between Sept. 1 and Dec. 31 and between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. on normal Village work days.

The SENIOR CITIZEN exemption must be applied for each year. To qualify, one of the owners on the deed must be at least 65 years old at the time the exemption becomes effective, and have lived at that location for two consecutive years immediately preceding the exemption effective date. First time filers should call the Village Hall (798-0244) for income and documentation requirements.

VETERANS filing for the first time, or updating their application for partial exemption also should call the Village Hall (798-0244) to be sure they have the needed documentation. Veterans are not required to refile each year. The exemption remains in effect until it is modified by the veteran.

There are two types of Veterans exemptions:

  1. An exemption on the primary residence of the veteran based on wartime, combat and disability eligibility within maximums established by state law.
  2. Veterans who had an exemption before moving to Massapequa Park should call Village Hall to determine documentation requirements.

Filing dates and regulations vary for the Town and County.

SENIOR CITIZENS should call 571-2407.

VETERANS should call 572-8452.
